Santa Clara County has Greatest Number of DUI Arrests during Holiday Crackdown

According to law enforcement in the Bay area, Santa Clara County has the most DUI (driving under the influence) arrests during the department's winter holiday crackdown, which is aimed at catching drunk drivers.

Sheriff's Sergeant Rick Sung told reporters that 189 people were arrested for driving under the influence from midnight Friday to midnight Sunday.  He said that while there were no deaths, there were 6 DUI related injuries in the county.

He also reported that the numbers were a higher than last year's numbers.  In 2008, the number of DUI arrests during the holiday crackdown was 181.

Police throughout other Bay area counties arrested 468 people for DUI.  Last year, they arrested 641.  They said that there was one DUI related death in Napa County and that checkpoints would continue until January 3, 2010.
