San Jose Man Arrested for DUI after Driving over Wife's Foot

In San Jose, California, a 36 year old Petaluma resident was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) after he allegedly ran over his wife's foot with his car.  The man, named Thomas Atteo, claimed he ran over his wife's foot by accident after they had an argument.

According to police, Atteo was arrested at 9:30 PM this past Saturday on the 1200 block of San Rafael Drive.   At the time of his arrest, Atteo and his wife were standing and arguing in the street.  That is when police learned that the Atteo had run over his wife's foot while he was trying to leave the scene in his car.

Atteo's wife told police that the accident was unintentional.  However, it was apparent to police that the man was under the influence of alcohol while driving, so they harged him with DUI and causing injury.  His wife, who is 37 years old, was taken in for medical treatment by paramedics.  She was released from a local hospital late Saturday night.

The Petaluma Police Department claims that there has been a significant increase in DUI arrests throughout the County.  They say that there has been 158% increase in arrests since January 2008.  In January 2009, police made 67 DUI arrests compared to 26 arrests in January 2008.
