DUI Offender Leads Police to 1.5 tons of Marijuana

On Sunday evening, Los Angeles police say that they discovered 1.5 tons of marijuana in a railroad container.  Prior to the discovery, police had been involved in a police chase with suspects that led them to the location of the narcotics.

The incident started when police tried to stop a DUI suspect at 10:45 PM.  Officers managed to catch up with the vehicle, but found that the driver abandoned it near Eastern Avenue and Tuttle Street.  When authorities searched the vehicle, they found three packages of marijuana.

Cops proceeded to fan out and found three suspects, one who told officers about the stash of marijuana in a nearby railroad car at Union Pacific and Indiana Street.  On Monday, authorities reported that they were still retrieving drugs.

Officer Sarah Faden told news sources, "Officers were following up in reference to a narcotics investigation".  A hazardous-materials team was also dispatched to the location.
