10-Year-Old Girl Killed in DUI Accident

A 10-year-old girl lost her life last week in Palm Beach County as the result of drunken driving.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, the suspect, a 46-year-old male, was taken into custody at the scene of the crime.  He was driving along  a local street when he appeared to either have stopped or parked his truck in the westbound lane of the boulevard. A second vehicle, also heading west, slammed into the stopped car. The young girl was sitting in the backseat, but it is uncertain as to whether she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver has since been taken into custody and transported to a jail. He has been charged with causing personal injury and damage, DUI and vehicular manslaughter. No additional details have been released regarding the suspect's blood alcohol level or the accident. Police say that the victim was brought to a hospital and later died from sustaining serious neck injuries.
