Coach Arrested for DUI

The community of Hollister was shocked to learn that their beloved coach was arrested for felony DUI in April.

Police reports show that Alvin Harrison, a former track coach at the Gilroy High School and former Olympian, was involved in an accident on April 7 where he hit another car on Highway 73. The impact was so great that the other car flipped, injuring two of the passengers to the point of needing hospitalization. At the time, Harrison was driving a rental van for an athletic field trip. Luckily, there were no students in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Harrison went before the judge this week to plead guilty to the felony DUI charges against him. The judge then sentenced him to 180 days behind bars, as well as three years probation. Shortly after the accident, Harrison was suspended from his position as coach.
