Seattle Detective Faces Second DUI in Crash That Terrified Victims

For a second time since 1994 an undercover police detective is facing DUI charges -

While the father and son he drove his car into has reported feeling "terrified" following the incident, as reported by the Seattle PI and KOMO News.

The accident occurred on the afternoon of October 27.

In the 1994 DUI incident officer J.F. was sentenced to a year in jail.  According to court records, J.F. only served one day in county jail, paid a $650 fine and was able to maintain an active driver's license.

The driver of the other car that J.F. hit on October 27, S.P., told reporters that he had just come from collecting his son from school to take him home when J.F. rear-ended him.  J.F. was driving a blue GMC Yukon SUV when he struck S.P.'s car on Chennault Beach Road and Highway 525.

The impact from the collision sent S.P.'s vehicle into two other vehicles.  According to investigators, J.F. made no attempts to stop his vehicle in the collision.

S.P. said, "It was a terrifying experience for both of us (he and his son), and I just want to make sure this never happens to anybody ever again.  I wanted to get my son, you know, I saw smoke coming from the engine, and I wanted to get him away to safety as quickly as I possibly could."

S.P. was afraid that his vehicle was going to erupt into flames and put he and his child in further danger of injury.

When Mukilteo police arrived at the scene, S.P. claims that they failed to take a statement from him, insurance information was refused, and - didn't tell him that the vehicle that hit him was an unmarked police vehicle piloted by an undercover detective.

S.P. said, "We didn't get any information about who he was or what he was or anything about the situation at all."

KOMO News was able to obtain police reports that listed the contents of the detective's vehicle.  Among the items found were six empty 50-milliliter bottler of peppermint schnapps, an almost emptied 375 ml bottle of vodka and two handguns.

The report also listed how J.F., 46, appeared to the police: smelling of alcohol, slurring his speech, walking with a prominent stagger, unsteady on his feet and his eyes were watery and bloodshot.

J.F. told the arresting officer that he was "an idiot.  I really screwed up" but he refused to take a breath test and a field sobriety test.  He was then handcuffed and taken to the police station.  Once at the station he was cited for investigation of DUI and given a court date.  He was later released.

J.F. appeared at court on October 27 but refrained from saying more than what was necessary.

S.P. reported being revolted by the actions of J.F. and that both he and his son have lingering pain since the accident.  He said, "That's a sorry excuse for a police officer" and "It was a good hit.  My left knee and my left thigh is kind of banged up. I kind of feel like I've been run over by a linebacker. ... We're just really, really sore."
