MD's DUI Arrest Leads to Self-Injury and Haz Mat Team Clean Up

After nearly crashing into the car belonging to a Florida Highway Patrol Captain, a physician was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, as reported by the Sun Sentinel. Once he was arrested and put into the back of the police cruiser, he allegedly proceeded to bang his head so hard that it caused bleeding – which he then spat into the face of a sergeant.

Police reported that at approximately 1:30 in the morning of May 20, Dr. S.B., 41, almost sped into a captain's vehicle as the two were both headed northbound on Central Florida GreeneWay near Curry Ford Road.

A trooper wrote that S.B., an anesthesiologist, had alcohol on his breath, appeared glassy-eyed and had difficulty maintaining his balance on his feet. S.B. refused to allow a blood sample to be taken to determine if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

By 2 a.m. S.B., a resident of Avalon Park in east Orange County, after failing his field sobriety tests, was arrested for DUI.

The report states that S.B. told a trooper that he "treats you guys in the E.R." at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville. S.B., according to his employer, is currently on suspension during the investigation. A spokesman from the hospital said that he is not welcome there any longer.

The report states that several items were found in S.B.'s BMW, and in his pockets, at the time of his arrest: $54,000, two handguns, a bottle of pills and a vial of liquid.

The pills and vial of liquid were sent to be analyzed at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

During the drive from the scene to the police station, S.B. repeatedly struck his head against the partition between the front and back row of seats of the patrol car. His behavior caused blood to stream down his face, as seen in the cruiser's surveillance video, as he verbally accused the officers of stealing his money.

D.B. is then seen spitting blood onto the face and eyes of a sergeant in the vehicle. From there he proceeded to kick the vehicle's door, according to the report, and damaging the hinges.

According to Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman, Sgt. Kim Montes, hundreds of dollars were allegedly spent on the vehicle's repair and clean up, including the work of a hazardous material team.

D.B.'s tirade didn't end in the patrol car. He allegedly remained enraged while being transferred to East Orlando's Florida Hospital where he kicked the light fixture over his bed. He then threatened troopers by stating he could "take" them, and, had weapons at home.

D.B. attained his medical degree in 2001 and did his residency at the University of Florida. He was the "co-founder" of a cosmetic center in Broward County before working at the Parrish Medical Center.
