Underage Female Charged with DUI Hit and Run had Ignored Bystander's Confrontation

A self-proclaimed party girl isn't receiving a lot of sympathy from the courts for her DUI hit-and-run in which she ignored a bystander that tried to detain her, the officers that tried to get a breath test from her and, that left a popular local chef dead, as reported by The Miami Herald.

K.T., 20, formally charged with DUI manslaughter, sat with her father at the defense table while S.R.'s widow sat at the table with the prosecutor, Warren Eth.

Eth told the court, "It's not just driving drunk, it's not just speeding, it's a hitting a human being, not caring."

K.T.'s bail was raised to $77,000 from $10,000 and she was ordered back on house arrest until the trial.

Witness J.F. recounted how the impact of the car crash sent S.R. flying up into the air before coming to a rest in a hotel driveway.

Eth said that though a street barricade was "painted with blood" it didn't stop K.T. from fleeing the scene.

J.F. tried to stop K.T. as she took off down Collins Avenue. He caught up with her in the valet section of her condo building and she brushed him off. J.F noticed that K.T.'s blond hair was marked with blood.

When Miami Beach officers arrived and arrested her K.T. refused to submit to a blood alcohol breathalyzer test. She was taken to the Miami Beach police station, where she fell asleep.

Detectives located a driver's license, for a woman over 21, in K.T.'s purse. It is presumed that this is she used to purchase alcohol.

Two hours after the accident K.T.'s blood was .225 – three times over the legal driving limit.

According to K.T.'s twitter account, she considers herself a "party princess." The night of the accident she had just completed her shift at the Nikki Beach nightclub where she worked as a bartender.

S.R., 49, was a popular local chef that had emigrated from Italy. He leaves behind a wife and three children.

Mark Shapiro, K.T.'s defense attorney, argued against the court's decision to raise the bail from its original $10,000. Shapiro said that K.T.'s parents "are very responsible people."

Not only was the bail amount raised, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Migna Sanchez Llorens ordered K.T. to maintain a 7 p.m. curfew, attend Alcoholic Anonymous meetings and to steer clear of all bars, nightclubs and liquor.

Due to the fact that K.T. is an underage drinker involved in a DUI, Sanchez Llorens said, "This is not an ordinary case."

K.T. has pleaded not guilty to DUI manslaughter, and is also facing charges of resisting arrest without violence and DUI property damage.

P.P., S.R.'s widow, is suing both K.T. and Nikki Beach on behalf of S.R.'s family. P.S.'s attorney, Jose Baez, said, "We are very happy that the judge granted all the requests by the prosecution."
