Driver Charged with DUI after Collision with Patrol Car

By Law Offices of Jason K.S. Porter, P.A.  May. 7, 2014 3:00p

A man was recently arrested on drunk driving accusations after crashing into a stopped Florida Highway Patrol cruiser. F.M., 28 years old, was driving his vehicle south on Interstate 275 at about 3:00 in the morning when he failed to follow directions posted regarding roadway construction. According to FHP reports, there were signs, traffic cones and other objects in place to close all southbound lanes and guide drivers off the Interstate to the detour route. Instead of exiting the I-275, however, F.M. apparently continued on the highway and then crashed into a parked police cruiser that had its emergency lights on and was occupied by a single officer. F.M. was not hurt but the FHP trooper suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization. Additional authorities responded to the scene and F.M. was asked to submit to a breathalyzer test. The breathalyzer reportedly gave a result of 0.21 percent—significantly over the legal limit of 0.08 percent. F.M. was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI and DUI involving injury and property damage. Make sure you are represented by a DUI defense lawyer immediately after being charged with drunk driving or driving under the influence of drugs.

About DUI Charges

If you have been arrested for allegedly drinking and driving or other DUI offense then it is important that you understand all that is associated with this criminal charge. The exact charges and possible penalties depend on the circumstances of each case but most cases will involve being booked into jail (even if only for a few hours), a criminal hearing and an administrative hearing regarding your driver's license with the DHSMV. If you are found guilty of the DUI charges leveled against you then you may be penalized with significant incarceration, thousands in fines and the loss of your license.
