Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes into Fire Station

By Laboy Law Office  May. 20, 2013 10:13a

C.L. is facing serious charges for driving under the influence of alcohol and causing property damage to a firehouse. The 53-year-old woman was driving her Jeep around 11:00 in the evening on Friday when she apparently lost control of her vehicle. The Jeep careened into the bay doors of a fire station causing significant damage to her own car, the station and one of the station's fire engines. C.L. received minor injuries and was immediately transported to a local medical facility for treatment. No fire department personnel or other individuals were injured in the accident. Authorities suspected the woman had been driving under the influence of an intoxicant and had a blood sample taken. Reports do not state if officers observed any other indicators of possible drunkenness or intoxication. She was taken into custody by deputies with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office after she received medical treatment and was released. She faces charges for driving under the influence and felony criminal damage. Investigators are still looking into the accident and are awaiting the results of the blood test. About DUI Penalties

A conviction for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol can result in harsh penalties even for a first time arrest and conviction. The severity of the penalty depends on the circumstances of the incident. DUI convictions involving serious injuries or fatalities can result in years of incarceration, thousands in fines, loss of your driver's license, mandatory substance abuse counseling and more. A skilled defense attorney may be able to prove that an accident was not your fault or that an officer who pulled you over did not have probable cause for doing so. It is possible that a breathalyzer test or blood test was conducted improperly or was otherwise compromised resulting in an incorrect result.
