Passenger Calls 911 On Driver Of Bus For Suspected Intoxicated Driving

On Friday, March 11, New Jersey State Police received a call from a passenger on a Bolt Bus traveling from New York to Baltimore, NBC Philadelphia reports.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was allegedly driving erratically while traveling south on the New Jersey Turnpike in Camden County, prompting the passenger to alert law enforcement. The driver was pulled over at about 4 PM, just before reaching the Camden-Philadelphia Interchange.

After failing several field sobriety tests the officer administered, the bus driver was put under arrest and taken into police custody.

Passengers Wait For Replacement Driver, Use Social Media To Alert Friends

The stricken passengers of the bus were forced to wait on the side of the road at the Interchange for several hours while awaiting a replacement driver’s arrival.

Though obviously upset and frustrated with the event, many passengers kept high spirits, even alerting friends and family via twitter and other social media.

“The driver of the BoltBus I'm on from NYC to Baltimore has been arrested for drunk driving ~ 2 hours after we left NYC,” Tao Lin posted to his twitter while waiting. He was making the trip to Baltimore the visit his wife. “Someone said a ‘happy hour’ joke and everyone laughed,” he later tweeted.

The bus finally made it to its destination at about 9:30 without further incident. The driver has been suspended and is currently awaiting charges.
