Virginia Man Charged with Hit & Run and DUI

In the state of Virginia, a 44 year old man by the name of Cleveland N. Robertson was recently charged with driving under the influence and hit and run.  Yesterday, Robertson allegedly collided with another driver and a state trooper while drunk.  He was traveling in the wrong direction on Interstate 264, according to police.

Virginia State Police learned about the drunk driver after receiving several calls to the dispatch center.  After calls were received, dispatchers sent police to the Interstate at 1:00 AM.  That is when police noticed a 1992 Lexus was traveling on the wrong side of the road.  They watched as the car struck another motorist before they moved in.

According to Virginia State Trooper, L.C. White, he attempted to position his police car along the left lane and the shoulder to prevent the operator of the Lexus from continuing to drive.  However, the driver did not stop.  Instead, he crashed into the police car and continued to drive 100 yards before stopping.

The passenger of the other vehicle escaped the accident with no injuries.  Officer White sustained minor injuries but was not hospitalized.  Robertson was charged with DUI, 2 counts of felony hit and run and driving the wrong way.
