Man Charged with DUI in Knoxville after Hitting Utility Worker

Knoxville, Tennessee - in Knox County, law enforcement recently arrested an Oak Ridge resident.  According to reports, the man had been driving under the influence (DUI) when he hit a utility worker with his automobile. 

The defendant, 22 year old Byron John Van Brocklin was taken to a local police station where he was held till Monday morning.  His bail had been set at $1,000, but he was unable to pay it.

At this time, there have been no announcements regarding the health and condition of the utility worker that was hit by Van Brocklin.  However, police said that the DUI accident occurred around 3:00 AM on Monday.  When police stopped Van Brocklin, they said that he had slurred speech and was not balanced on his feet, which led to them charging him with driving under the influence.

According to a local newspaper, Van Brocklin had been driving home on Monday after drinking two pitchers of beer at a local nightblub.  The accident occurred in Knox County, Tennessee.
