Delaware DUI Offender Fights State Trooper

In Newark, Delaware, it is reported that 30 year old Daniel J. Newman put up quite a fight when he was pulled over for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) by a state trooper.
Newman was stopped by the officer this past Thursday on Old Baltimore Pike.  The officer said that he pulled Newman over because he failed to use his turn signals while changing lanes.  When the trooper told Newman he would be charged with DUI and called for police backup, Newman became rather aggressive.

According to officers on the scene, Newman tried to return to his truck, despite the fact that the trooper had ordered him to put his arms behind his back.   Police approached him and Newman proceeded to struggle, even pushing one of the officers.  Eventually, police were able to place Newman in handcuffs.

After being arrested, Newman received treatment for a nose injury at Christiana Hospital.  He was charged with:   Offensive Touching of a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, DUI, Menacing, Following Too Closely and Improper Lane Change.

Thankfully, the trooper Newman assaulted was not injured.
