Escondido Gets DUI Grant

Recently, it was announced that the Escondido Police Department was given a $268,000 grant to staff special operations that are meant to target DUI offenders.

The grant was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety and will last one year.  It will target drunk drivers through extra patrols, checkpoints, warrant searches, and also court stings.  The new effort will also educate the public about the dangers of driving under the influence with the hope of reducing the number of people killed or injured during drunk driving accidents.

In the state of California, 950 people died during DUI accidents in 2009.

In a statement, Escondido Police Chief Jim Maher said, "No matter what you drive - a passenger car, pickup, sport utility vehicle or motorcycle - if we catch you driving impaired, we will arrest you. No exceptions. No excuses."

If you have been charged with DUI, now is the time to get representation from a DUI lawyer.
