Cop who Issued Mel Gibson's DUI Will be Fired from the LAPD

Mel Gibson’s infamous DUI in 2006 is a thing of the past, but the cop who issued the charge will no longer have a job. One sheriff spokesperson says that the decision to terminate the police officer was not connected to the arrest at all. Instead, he says that this wasn’t retaliation, and was part of the punishment for another offense. Allegedly, the officer violated procedure when he engaged in a high-speed pursuit and eventually caused an explosion on June 17th, 2011. The officer attempted to stop a drunk driver, and the suspect zoomed off at 100 mph. Eventually, he zoomed into a gas station and two pumps, triggering a fiery, dangerous explosion.

The police officer did not tell his superior the truth about his involvement in the chase, and did not notify emergency officials after the crash. The police officer’s defense lawyer denies those charges, saying that the cop did reach out to authorities immediately after the explosion. One spokesperson says that an LAPD officer has never been fired for violating pursuit policy before, making this a first. The police officer will attend a hearing next Thursday where he will plead his case, but sources allege that there is not much he can do to change his fate.

The deputy also pulled over Mel Gibson six years ago, and allegedly leaked 4 pages of Mel’s arrest report to TMZ. As well, sources suggest that this police officer was arrested without incident and that he did not utter anti-Semitic remarks, despite the fact that the police officer wrote the opposite into the police report. If you have been convicted of drunk driving and don’t believe that you were justly arrested or charged, or believe that the police officer displayed misconduct, talk to a DUI attorney right now!
