Mike Ditka's Son Faces DUI Charges

Mike Ditka was the former owner of the Bears, and now is the embarrassed father of a son that is facing DUI charges. According to the Sun Times, Mark Ditka, Mike’s son, is 49-year-old. He was recently caught with possession of a controlled substance after the police said that they found a bottle of unmarked pills in his car. After testing, they found that the pills were hydrocodone. This is a semi-synthetic opioid drug that is made from codeine and thebaine.

It is often used to treat moderate to severe pain, but can be addictive for those who took it for an injury and couldn’t give it up. The pill can cause drivers to become dizzy, woozy, and lightheaded. It can also cause euphoria. People are not supposed to take hydrocodone without a prescription and are not permitted to drive with the strong narcotic painkiller in their system.

Yet Mark Ditka didn’t listen to this warning. The police originally stopped the offender because they believed that he was driving in the lanes illegally. Once he was stopped, police were concerned and issued a field sobriety test. While Ditka submitted to these optional tests, he did not permit the officers to give him breath tests or blood tests. Those tests are required, so chances are that Ditka will receive a license suspension on that charge alone.

Ditka was taken to a local jail after the police believed that they had just cause to arrest him. He was also cited for operating an uninsured vehicle and driving on a suspended license. This is Ditka’s second DUI arrest in the past 12 months, which means that he will merit a harsher sentence then his first time around. Supposedly the last case ended when a judge threw out the breathalyzer results.
