Driver Faces Felony After DUI Accident

An accident just outside of McClellanville last weekend left one person dead and another facing felony DUI charges.

The accident, which happened around 12:16 a.m., is the result of a supposedly drunk driver who flipped his Ford Mustang off US-17. He was travelling between Howard Lane and Toby Road when the car went off the road, hit a ditch and then overturned. While he was mildly injured and treated at MUSC, his two female passengers, who were not wearing seat belts, were ejected from the vehicle.

One woman was seriously injured and taken to MUSC; the other was pronounced dead at the scene. While the accident is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver already faces one felony DUI charge for his role in the fatal accident.
