Ex-Ambassador Faces DUI and Hit-and-Run Charges in Washington

The Former U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker registered a .160 BAC on his breath test on August 14th, making him a DUI offender and sending him to jail on the spot. The politician was driving a 2009 Ford Mustang convertible and stopped in the left lane at a red light. When the light turned green, Crocker proceeded into the intersection, and then whipped to the right out of the left-hand lane and veered in front of a semi-truck.

The dangerous maneuver caused a crash. The semi smacked into Crocker’s sports car, and sent him spinning the other way. Instead of halting his vehicle and exchanging information with the commercial driver, an intoxicated Crocker stepped on the gas and took off after the accident. This is considered a hit-and-run, and is illegal. Crocker took his car to a nearby bank, but he was followed by a concerned witness who called the police.

When the deputies arrived on the scene, they arrested Crocker. According to The Seattle Times, the driver was very cooperative but was visibly drunk. Despite his tell-tale breath test, Crocker pleaded not guilty to his charges in court the next day. His lawyer is now working towards a defense that will keep Crocker out of jail. Crocker recently retired from his work as an Ambassador in some of the most dangerous countries. Recently, he served as the U.S. Ambassador in Afghanistan. He came back to the states because of health issues that he contracted while serving as an ambassador in Iraq.

The politician also ran embassies in Pakistan, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Syria. Crocker has seen a significant amount of action in his lifetime. He was in Beirut when the U.S. Embassy was detonated in 1983, and his residence in Syria was ransacked by a mob while he was serving there. Doubtless, the ambassador will use his decades of service to prove that he is not a threat to society and should not be forced to serve jail time. Talk to a lawyer today if you have been charged with a hit and run or a DUI!
