Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes While Looking at Wreck

By Law Offices of Mitch Furman & Associates  Sep. 13, 2012 2:30p

Three different car accidents occurred within minutes of each other on the same stretch of highway recently. Two injury crashes and a hit and run happened in the early morning hours on a Chicago freeway all within about 10 minutes of each other. The first collision occurred when one vehicle collided into another car and rolled over. That crash resulted in three injuries, two of which were categorized as serious-to-critical. Moments later, another crash involving three vehicles occurred when traffic began backing up due to gawkers. According to police reports, cars began coming to a sudden stop in order to view the first accident which resulted in the second accident. Two people were reported as having suffered minor injuries in the second collision. Finally, an individual suspected of driving while intoxicated ran into two cars that had slowed because of the backed up traffic. The suspected drunk driver took off from the scene but was apprehended by police soon after. No injuries occurred in the third accident but the suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Don't hesitate to speak with a DUI lawyer right away if you have been arrested for any drunk driving or DUI of drugs charge.

Have you been charged with a DUI involving a serious accident?

If you were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after allegedly causing a car accident then you may be charged with aggravated DUI. The charge of "aggravated DUI" may be assessed if an individual is suspected of having committed additional crimes or having caused injury or property damage while driving under the influence. Examples of circumstances that may result in this much more severe charge include DUI in the presence of a child under 16, DUI causing an injury accident, accident resulting in death, a third or subsequent DUI, DUI with a BAC of .16 or greater and others.
