Woman Facing 28 Years of Jail Time for DUI Related Deaths

This week, Sandra Vasquez was found guilty for the deaths of five teenagers in Oswego.  The teenagers died in 2007 while riding with Vasquez, who was driving under the influence of alcohol.

After 12 hours of deliberation, a jury decided that Vasquez was guilty and announced their finding in the Kendall County Courthouse.  Now, Vasquez will face 28 years of jail time.  She was charges with 5 counts of reckless homicide and 16 counts of aggravated DUI.

She is expected to be sentenced on August 27th.

According to the Chicago Tribune, when the verdict was read, Vasquez showed no sign of emotion.  However, family members in court cried.  On February 11, 2007, Vasquex went to pick up her younger sister from a party at a residence.  She agreed to give one teen a ride, but said seven others piled into her car.  While driving under the influence, she crashed and five of the teenagers died.
