Roseville Police Officers Conducting DUI Checkpoint

Officers with the Roseville Police Department are cracking down on drunk driving by conducting a DUI/drivers license checkpoint this weekend.

At the undisclosed location, which will be in operation from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., officers will be checking for proper licensing along with impaired driving. Any drivers who are given and fail a sobriety test will be arrested immediately and can expect license suspension, jail time, vehicle storage fees, DUI classes, insurance rate increases and other expenses. All of this can easily add up to $10,000 or more.

Due to efforts such as these traffic deaths have declined significantly between 2007 to 2009, representing a 23 percent decrease overall. Of these, DUI deaths also declined by 16 percent between the same years. In 2009 alone, alcohol impairedness caused the largest amount of traffic fatalities.

Funding for this traffic checkpoint has been provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
