Elderly Couple Struck by Drunk Driver

Tragedy struck the Columbia community when news of an elderly couple being struck and killed by a drunk driver reached home.

Elaine Lavoie, 70, and Philip Lavoie, 74, were driving on Interstate 95 just outside of Walterboro when their car was struck by Christopher M. Gregg. The 34-year-old from Smyrna, Delaware was charged with two counts of felony DUI involving a death. According to South Carolina Patrol Cpl. Paul Brouthers Gregg was driving a 1992 Ford Mustang when he switched lanes quickly, striking the Suburban driven by Elaine. The SUV then went off the road and struck a tree.

Her husband, the passenger, died from multiple injuries sustained as a result of the crash. Elaine's body will undergo an autopsy this week to determine the cause of death. Both are believed to have been wearing their seatbelts.

If someone you love has been charged with a felony DUI there is no time to waste in hiring a DUI attorney.
